Job summary

The Port of Wilmington is seeking a Facilities Mechanic to support day-to-day operations and maintenance across its facilities and infrastructure. You will perform a wide range of general mechanical tasks to keep buildings and equipment safe, functional, and presentable.

Trade school training or an apprenticeship in HVAC, plumbing, or industrial maintenance is required. Ideal candidates have a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, hands-on facility upkeep experience, and the ability to

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Trade school or apprenticeship in plumbing, HVAC, or industrial maintenance; licenses or certifications
• Experience with plumbing, commercial refrigeration, BAS or industrial ventilation
• At least 2 years in general facilities maintenance, preferably in an industrial/port/commercial setting
• Knowledge of tools, building systems, and maintenance best practices
• Ability to operate standard maintenance equipment (hand tools, ladders, power tools)

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair plumbing systems, including water lines, valves, fittings, faucets, toilets, drains, and related fixtures.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain HVAC equipment, including rooftop units, air handlers, exhaust fans, heaters, thermostats, and controls.
• Perform HVAC preventive maintenance: filter/belt replacement, coil cleaning, drain clearing, lubrication, motor & bearing checks.
• Maintain and repair pumps, fans, motors, and other building mechanical equipment.
• Read manuals, drawings, and wiring diagrams; use tools to diagnose problems.
• Complete work orders and document repairs, parts, and issues for follow-up.
• Respond to leaks, HVAC outages, and other facility breakdowns; coordinate shutdowns.
• Assist contractors; keep tools and areas organized; follow safety protocols.
