Job summary

Orbis Machinery, LLC is seeking a Mechanical Designer to create and revise 3D models and manufacturing drawings for custom industrial equipment. You will develop fabrication, machining, and layout drawings, apply GD&T, and maintain bills of materials while collaborating with Engineering and Manufacturing.

The role emphasizes accuracy, manufacturability, and documentation control, with a focus on reverse engineering and supporting modifications and rebuilds across legacy equipment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Design or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings from 3D CAD models.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar 3D CAD software.
• Working knowledge of machining, welding, fabrication, and mechanical assembly.
• Knowledge of dimensioning, tolerancing, GD&T, weld symbols, and manufacturing drawing practices.
• Experience with industrial machinery, fabricated equipment, weldments, machined components, or custom OEM equipment preferred.
• Experience with reverse engineering and bills of materials preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with Engineering and Manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Create and revise 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings for custom industrial equipment, components, and assemblies.
• Develop fabrication, machining, assembly, and equipment layout drawings from 3D models.
• Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), weld symbols, materials, finishes, and manufacturing notes.
• Create and maintain bills of materials and update drawings and documentation as designs change.
• Support reverse-engineering projects by measuring existing equipment and components and developing accurate models and drawings.
• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, fit, and manufacturability prior to release.
• Work with Engineering, Fabrication, Machining, and Assembly to resolve drawing and design-related questions.
• Assist with design and detailing changes under the direction of Engineering.
• Support equipment modifications, replacement parts, rebuilds, and legacy equipment documentation.
• Maintain drawing revisions and organized project documentation while managing multiple assignments and deadlines.
