Job summary

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC seeks an Industrial Engineering Technician (Millwright) to support a government customer at Ft. Detrick, Maryland.

The role covers mechanical maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, and related trades to ensure reliable operation of critical systems. The technician will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, fabricate parts, and maintain records while complying with safety, bio-containment, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in trades including sheet metal, steam fitting, fabrication, hydraulics, HVAC, and related systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical equipment, HVAC, plumbing and heating systems.
  • Experience with maintenance in bio-containment environments and GMP/industrial settings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on motors, doors, fans, and electrical devices per manuals and specs.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical equipment; disassemble, replace parts and reassemble.
  • Maintain inventories of equipment, parts, and supplies; document maintenance activities and trends.
  • Operate with safety systems and adhere to bio-containment and AR 190-17 guidelines.

Job description

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is looking for a Industrial Engineering Technician (Millwright) to provide technical support to our government customer located in Ft. Detrick, Maryland.

The Industrial Engineering Technician (Millwright) shall maintain a comprehensive knowledge of mechanical equipment, engineering principles, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing and heating systems. Conducts a variety of duties which include numerous skills in a variety of trades to include, but not be limited to sheet metal work, welding, steam fitting, fabrication, hydraulics, hot/cold water systems, electrical condensate pumps, pressure powered pumps, heat recovery pumps, vacuum pumps, instrument air, breathing air and laboratory air systems.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, overhead doors, exhaust fans, supply fans, pneumatic controls, actuators and electrical devices; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges. Controls downtime by informing workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment. Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Ensures a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Work assignments may include mechanics, electrical, steam fitting, plumbing, lubrication, installation, and general repair and maintenance, sheet metal work, acetylene welding, and/or cutting. Work involves the complete assembly/disassembly of equipment and replacement of worn parts. Installs, relocates, removes, modifies, and performs maintenance, preventive maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical equipment. Repairs and adjusts vacuum pumps and medical air compressors. Practical knowledge of HVAC and Building Automation Systems.
  • Performs work in bio-containment suites (BSL-3 and BSL-4) in the presence of highly hazardous infectious agents and toxins and is required to participate in Bio-surety Personnel Reliability System.
  • Shall perform after-hour, emergency call back, and variable work schedules as required. Response time for call-ins shall be within one hour of notification.
  • Shall examine and troubleshoot to determine the extent of repairs required, materials or parts needed, and to estimate the time required to complete repairs. Disassemble, repair, and rebuild component parts of general industrial plant equipment, such as pumps, motors, overhead rollup doors, lift gates, air compressors, pop-up bollards and barriers and motorized slide gates. The work requires the ability to interpret and apply the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop directives, multi-view blueprints, and other documents in determining critical dimensions and key reference points.
  • Technicians at this level, independently dismantle, move, and relocate various types of industrial machinery and equipment or install new machinery and equipment. Property anchor building equipment and machinery to foundations.
  • The technicians shall perform on-site inspections as assigned, interpret blue prints for accuracy, confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement testing, reviewing operation manuals, maintenance plans and procedures, identifying critical parts, develops operational procedures, standing operating procedures andinputting data into database. Technician shall document any discrepancies and report them back to the TPOC, Facility Management Office, and COR.
  • Assures that work assignments, procedures, sequence, methods, and deadlines are completed on time.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • OSHA-Approved Forklift Operator Certification
  • Basic Quality Assurance (QA) Training for Maintenance/Construction
  • OSHA 10 - general industry

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain BPRP status and BSL-3/4 access in accordance with AR 190-17 and local policies.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a DoD SECRET clearance.
