Job summary

DigiKey in Thief River Falls, MN invites rising juniors and seniors in Industrial Engineering or related fields to join us as an Industrial Engineering Intern. You will work with our Engineering team to define distribution processes and engineered labor standards, onsite at our corporate headquarters.

This internship provides hands-on experience in our highly automated warehouse, time studies, and continuous improvement, with local housing provided for interns and paid compensation.

Qualifications

• Rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Be willing to take the initiative, working independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrating a positive, collaborative approach is important in this role.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day tasks and projects in our highly automated warehouse system
• Utilize industrial engineering best practices in equipment, process, and human factor analysis
• Focus on human interfacing aspects of process and systems
• Observe, document, and time study processes to help define engineered standards
• Identify and implement process improvements and waste reduction
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions
• Collaborate with team members on various projects and initiatives
• Maintain organized records of work and project files
• Gain practical experience in the assigned department
• Develop a deeper understanding of DigiKey and how it operates
• Improve business skills such as communication, project management, data analysis, etc.
• Build a professional network within the industry

Position Overview

As an Industrial Engineering Intern at DigiKey, you will work alongside Engineering team members to improve and define distribution processes and Engineered Labor Standards. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• A rising Junior or Senior currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Be willing to take the initiative, working independently and collaboratively
• Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills including average to above-average computer ability
• Demonstrating a positive, collaborative approach is important in this role

Tools/Systems/Software

• Full Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams and Outlook
• Time Studies and Ergonomics (preferred)

Physical Requirements

Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen

Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is determined based on a candidate's relevant experience and their most recently completed year of undergraduate education and/or the graduate program (Masters/PhD) they are pursuing. For undergraduate applicants, the base pay range is $21.00 to $23.00. For graduate applicants, the base pay rate is $26.00 for applicants pursuing a Masters degree and $29.00 for those pursuing a PhD.
