Job summary

Garmin Ltd. in the United States (Greater Kansas City area) is seeking a full-time Industrial Engineer 2 to lead projects focused on the physical layout of workspaces and process improvements.

Ideal candidates will analyze workflow, apply lean methods, and design experiments for continuous improvement. Responsibilities include improving ergonomics within Operations, testing new processes, and providing cost analyses for equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial/Process Engineering or related field with ≥1 year experience.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher is typically expected.
  • Proficiency with standard engineering tools and procedures.
  • Understanding of warehouse/manufacturing/service processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead small projects or subprojects related to layout design of workspaces.
  • Analyze and implement ergonomic improvements in Operations to boost productivity and safety.
  • Mockup and test new processes/equipment; develop designed experiments for process and quality improvements.
  • Analyze and justify special packaging projects including tooling and equipment setup.
  • Collaborate in engineering design reviews and provide cost analyses for new equipment.
  • Mentor Junior industrial engineers (Industrial Engineer 1) and apply lean methods to tasks.
  • Identify root causes from data to drive corrective actions and design tooling as needed.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Industrial Engineer 2 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for leading small projects and/or sub projects with relation to the analysis, design and implementation of physical layout design of workspaces.

Responsibilities
  • Provide analysis and input on physical layout design of workspaces for maximum flexibility and productivity, ensuring demand requirements are met
  • Analyze, design and implement ergonomics within Operations to enhance productivity, reduce fatigue and ensure a safe work environment
  • Mockup and test new processes and/or equipment including development of designed experiments for process and quality improvements
  • Analyze, justify and implement special packaging projects, including tooling and equipment set-up
  • Collaborate and adds value in engineering design reviews
  • Complete basic cost analyses and provides justification for new equipment
  • Understand and implement lean tools and methods in performance of essential functions and estimate level of effort for a task
  • Analyze data to determine quality trends, finds technical root causes and implement corrective actions for given problems
  • Design custom tooling as needed for specific applications
  • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced industrial engineers (Industrial Engineer 1)
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, or related engineering field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated full use of industry standards and procedures
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge in use of engineering tools
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic warehouse, manufacturing and/or service processes
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous work or internship experience in a warehouse environment
