Overview

Welcome to Gordon Food Service. The Industrial Engineer is responsible for data collection, analysis, and capacity and workflow planning, building and implementing systems and processes from the ground up. The role focuses on cycle time studies, distribution center labor standards, and working with Operations Teams to meet capacity, output, productivity, and quality goals. Partners with Broadline leadership to support Gordon Food Service objectives.

Key Initiatives
  • Build Our Engineered Labor Standards: Develop and implement fair and sustainable engineered labor standards, perform labor analysis, set standards, and optimize to improve efficiency.
  • Integrate Standards into Our Core Systems: Serve as the link between industrial engineering principles and the technology stack, with experience in WMS, WES, and controls software.
  • Lead the Deployment and Governance: Lead deployment of standards, provide training and communication, and establish maintenance and audit schedules.
  • Drive Measurable Performance Improvements: Analyze performance data to identify opportunities and initiate process and system improvements to improve metrics such as Picks Per Hour, order accuracy, and safety.
  • Partner on Future-State Automation: Collaborate with Solutions Engineering to evaluate labor and overhead savings to justify automation investments.
What you will do
  • Manage and implement productivity improvements, training programs, and engineering initiatives to drive efficiency and service. Lead data analytics, CI, engineering, and automation efforts to improve safety, quality, capacity, delivery, and cost.
  • Partner with enterprise leaders to define and plan applications such as strategic initiatives, product flow optimization, process improvement, material handling, and automation.
  • Research automation techniques, test new systems for efficiency, plan DC layouts to optimize distribution processes, evaluate material handling equipment with vendors.
  • Execute engineering projects with defined scopes, timelines, and performance metrics; develop project scopes, specifications, estimates, and change management.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize product flow across Distribution Operations.
  • Provide engineering support across cross-functional areas and manage plans for major operational improvements.
  • Develop workflow models using theory of constraints and optimize asset utilization of facilities, equipment, and personnel.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain time-studied standards; perform time and motion studies and adjust standards as policies or processes change.
  • Apply engineering methodologies/tools (slotting, labor standards, layouts, data analysis, and resource modeling) to improve distribution and transportation operations.
  • Develop improved methods and layouts using AutoCAD or other relevant software to scale operations.
  • Identify facility design requirements and perform value stream mapping to improve flow and warehouse operations.
  • Develop and monitor metrics and dashboards to track progress and communicate with leadership through data analysis.
  • Analyze inputs and capacity models to perform capacity planning and update models as needed.
  • Leverage data analytics and Lean tools to identify root causes and drive improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
When you will work
  • Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm
  • Hybrid schedule; 4 days in office in Wyoming, MI with 1 day remote
What you will bring to the table
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering required
  • Experience with time and motion studies, preferably involving warehouse job functions
  • 5+ years of industrial engineering experience, preferably within a distribution center setting
  • Master Degree in Industrial Engineering preferred
  • Multisite experience strongly preferred
  • Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Manufacturing Design experience preferred
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types and equipment (AS/RS, conveyors, sortation, AMRs, etc.)
  • Experience in core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics)
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, Lean methods, and warehouse design
  • Experience querying data from multiple systems (SQL, Alteryx or similar) or relevant experience
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with trend analysis
  • Proficient in report writing and data-driven decision making
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines
  • Budgeting experience and reporting capabilities
  • Self-management and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to consult with management at all levels, provide recommendations on system health and operations
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex information and present to groups
  • Business acumen to understand financial drivers and big-picture business impact
