Logistics Insight Corporation (LINC), a subsidiary of Universal Logistics Holdings, is seeking an Industrial Engineer to support the launch and ongoing optimization of a new customer operation in Madison, WI.
This individual will be responsible for designing efficient material flow processes, optimizing line-side material delivery, improving operational productivity, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical skills with a hands‑on approach to process design and operational problem solving.
This position will be based in Madison, WI, supporting the Sub‑Zero account. Travel will be limited and only required as business needs arise, such as startup support, training, or project‑related activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Line‑Side Material Delivery Design: Design and implement efficient material presentation and delivery systems that support production requirements while minimizing waste and operator movement.
- Material Flow Optimization: Develop and improve material handling processes, including kitting, point‑of‑use inventory, tugger routes, gravity‑fed racks, and replenishment strategies.
- Facility & Process Layout Design: Support warehouse and production layout development to maximize space utilization, material flow efficiency, and operational throughput.
- Time & Motion Studies: Conduct time studies, labor observations, and workflow analysis to establish labor standards, improve productivity, and eliminate non‑value‑added activities.
- Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Apply Lean principles including 5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, Kanban, and Value Stream Mapping to improve operational performance.
- Ergonomics & Safety Improvements: Evaluate workstation and material presentation designs to promote safe work practices and reduce ergonomic risks.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilize operational data to identify improvement opportunities, measure results, and support business decisions through KPI reporting and ROI analysis.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with Operations, Project Management, Engineering, Safety, IT, and customer stakeholders to support startup activities and ongoing operational enhancements.
- Capital Project Support: Assist with equipment evaluations, process improvement investments, and facility modifications by providing cost‑benefit and ROI analysis.
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, Logistics, or a related technical field.
- 1-3+ years of industrial engineering, process improvement, manufacturing engineering, logistics engineering, or warehouse engineering experience.
- Experience with facility layouts, workflow analysis, labor studies, or material presentation design.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
Preferred
- Experience within warehousing, distribution, 3PL, manufacturing, appliance manufacturing, or automotive environments.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Lean Logistics methodologies.
- Experience conducting time studies, labor standards development, MOST, PMTS, or similar work measurement techniques.
- Experience supporting startup operations, facility launches, or large‑scale process implementations.
- Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and material handling equipment.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
