Job summary

Leonardo DRS is seeking an Industrial Engineer to lead lean manufacturing initiatives across the Dallas facility. You will apply Kaizen and Six Sigma methods to improve quality, yield, and productivity while coordinating equipment layouts and production processes.

The role requires 5+ years of engineering experience with direct industrial engineering exposure, plus a Lean Six Sigma belt if possible. Strong data analysis and cross-functional communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering required.
  • 5+ years engineering experience with 3+ years in direct Industrial Engineering.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
  • Experience leading teams and projects desired.
  • Specialties may include manufacturing, production, industrial, welding, tooling, testing, processing, software, and robotics.
  • Strong proficiency with project management tools (Charters, Gantt Charts).
  • Ability to analyze large data sets using statistical tools (Excel, Minitab, JMP).

  • Specify and implement equipment and processes including layout and material flow optimization.
  • Design shop tooling and visual aids to assist production.
  • Apply Lean/Six Sigma methods for waste reduction and process improvement.
  • Coordinate layouts and workstation moves; prepare time estimates for projects.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide technical leadership.
  • Travel up to 20% per year.

Job Responsibilities

Hands on responsibilities throughout the facility

Responsible for implementing continuous improvement tools to enhance Quality/ Yield, reduce Cost, and improve Productivity/Schedule. Initiate and lead lean manufacturing process improvement projects.

Specify and implement equipment and processes including efficient layout and optimization of material and information flows.

Design shop / visual aid tooling to assist production.

Experience with Lean/Six Sigma Manufacturing methodologies for waste reduction, 5S, Standard Work, TAKT, Pull System, single piece flow, Value Stream Mapping, cell design, and manufacturing flow.

Demonstrates technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.

Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.

Coordinate layout and work station move activities. Prepares time estimates for proposed projects and evaluates time factors.

Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.

Other duties as assigned

Office environment, day shift. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Travel up to 20% per year

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering
5+ years applicable engineering experience with 3+ years experience in direct Industrial Engineering

Lean SIx Sigma Green Belt Certification or Black Belt perferable.
Experience leading teams and projects desired
Successfully completed Kaizen projects desired
Specialties may include manufacturing, production, industrial, welding, tooling, testing, processing, software, and robotics
Strong proficiency using project management tools such as Project Charters and Gantt Charts preferred
Demonstrated ability of handling, analyzing, and presenting large volume of data utilizing statistical analysis tools like MS Excel, Minitab or JMP.
Experience in fast paced, high volume environments including multi-site operating experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of engineering processes including engineering change control, engineering labor standards and methodologies.
Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.
Skills in the use of Autocad, Arena, Promodel, or other simulation programs preferred.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in written form to both technical and non-technical audiences, especially regarding manufacturing processes, engineering issues and proposed changes and dispositions

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
