The Industrial Engineer supports the plant's operational performance, manufacturing systems, and customer requirements. This position ensures compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and automotive quality requirements while providing engineering support across all three manufacturing shifts. The role involves conducting time and motion studies, optimizing manufacturing processes, analyzing production data, improving line layouts, and driving continuous improvement and lean initiatives throughout the facility.
- Analyze production processes, cycle times, and line balance to optimize throughput and labor utilization.
- Design, validate, and implement efficient workstation layouts, material presentation methods, and standard work instructions.
- Conduct time studies, capacity utilization analyses, and line balancing using standard industrial engineering methodologies.
- Develop, verify, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flow diagrams, and operator balance charts.
- Investigate internal and customer quality and efficiency concerns to identify operational root causes.
- Lead engineering-driven corrective and preventive actions to improve scrap rates, yield, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Monitor scrap, rework, cycle time, and downtime trends to target cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain engineering change documentation, routings, labor standards, and facility layout drawings.
- Support customer and third-party audits with process capability data and engineering documentation.
- Ensure manufacturing process designs adhere to IATF 16949 standards, PFMEAs, and control plans.
- Lead continuous improvement, Kaizen events, 5S programs, and Lean manufacturing initiatives across the plant.
Cross-Functional Support
- Provide engineering, EHS, and technical troubleshooting support during all production shifts as needed.
- Coordinate technical communications and handoffs between first, second, and third-shift supervisors and engineering staff.
- Lead launch activities, tooling/line modifications, and new product introductions (NPI) to ensure seamless production handoff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field required.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) preferred.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2–5 years of industrial or manufacturing engineering experience in automotive manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, ergonomic principles, and plant safety compliance requirements.
- Practical experience with Lean manufacturing systems, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), line balancing, and time-and-motion studies.
- Demonstrated experience with root cause analysis methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) and corrective action implementation.
- Proficiency in 2D/3D layout software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Skills
- Working knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
- Experience utilizing SAP or equivalent ERP/MES manufacturing systems.
- Experience with discrete-event simulation software (e.g., Arena, FlexSim) or digital manufacturing tools.
