Our client is a long-established engineering and manufacturing company. It designs and builds precision engineered systems for critical uses in defense, aerospace, marine, energy, industrial, and medical markets. Its products go into some of the most demanding applications in the world, and it is investing in its operations to support continued growth.
The Role
The Industrial Engineer drives improvement in manufacturing performance, capacity, productivity, material flow, and on‑time delivery. You’ll work closely with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Program Management to analyze how the factory is performing, find the biggest opportunities, and put solutions in place that hold. This role suits a hands‑on engineer who likes being on the floor, works from data, and wants to see the impact of their work on the business.
What You’ll Do
- Design and optimize factory layouts, production cells, workstations, equipment placement, and production flow to improve throughput, space use, safety, and efficiency
- Improve material flow, WIP movement, point‑of‑use storage, replenishment, and material presentation to cut handling, travel, and production delays
- Lead capacity planning, labor modeling, line balancing, and constraint analysis for current and forecasted demand
- Conduct time studies and work measurement to set and maintain labor standards and support standard work
- Analyze WIP, queue times, sequencing, and manufacturing lead times to improve flow and on‑time delivery
- Lead Lean, Six Sigma, value stream mapping, 5S, and other continuous improvement initiatives
- Build and maintain KPIs for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity
- Evaluate workstation design, operator movement, and ergonomics to make work safer and easier
- Provide capacity, labor, space, and utilization analysis to support new product introduction, capital equipment, automation, and facility planning
- Support production recovery and contingency planning
- Develop business cases and recommendations for process improvements, capital investments, and operational changes
- Communicate changes, expectations, and project results clearly to employees and leadership
- Support compliance with AS9100, customer, and regulatory requirements
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 6+ years of industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, operations, or continuous improvement experience in a manufacturing environment
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
- Hands‑on experience with capacity planning, labor modeling, time studies, work measurement, labor standards, line balancing, and production and material flow
- A track record of turning manufacturing data into practical recommendations that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production reporting or analytical tools
- Working knowledge of manufacturing cost concepts, including cost of goods and ROI
- Proficiency with Excel, Visio, and Microsoft Project, and the ability to learn engineering software such as Autodesk Inventor
- Proven ability to lead cross‑functional improvement projects from analysis through implementation and sustainment
- Strong communication and facilitation skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting new product introduction, facility planning, automation, or capital equipment projects
- Experience working in an AS9100‑certified quality system
- Experience with manufacturing simulation, facility layout, data visualization, or advanced analytics software
