Job summary

Plain Dealing Lumber in Plain Dealing, LA is seeking an Industrial Electrician to keep sawmill and planer operations running safely and reliably. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and automated equipment across the facility, serving as the primary electrical resource on shift.

This full-time, shift-based role offers Monday–Friday 6:00 am–6:00 pm or Thursday–Monday 6:00 am–6:00 pm, with hourly pay between $32 and $42 depending on experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; electrical trade training preferred.
• Valid Louisiana electrician license or ability to obtain one.
• Minimum 3 years in industrial electrical maintenance, preferably sawmill/heavy manufacturing.

Job Summary

The Industrial Electrician plays a critical role in keeping Plain Dealing Lumber’s sawmill and planer operations running safely and reliably. This position installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical systems and automated equipment throughout the facility. Serving as the primary electrical resource during the shift, the Industrial Electrician independently addresses electrical maintenance, and repair needs to minimize downtime and support safe, efficient production.

This is a shift-based position at our Plain Dealing, LA facility, with the following schedule options available: Monday–Friday, 6:00 am–6:00 pm, or Thursday–Monday, 6:00 am–6:00 pm.

Hourly rate: $32 - $42, based on relevant experience.

Essential Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, including motor controls, power distribution panels, transformers, and switchgear.
• Diagnose and repair electrical issues involving production equipment, PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and control circuits.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals to support installation, troubleshooting, and repair work.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment to help prevent breakdowns and minimize downtime.
• Install and maintain conduit, wiring, and electrical distribution systems in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable regulations.
• Troubleshoot and adjust PLCs and automated control systems, coordinating with controls specialists or equipment manufacturers on complex programming as needed.
• Respond to electrical breakdowns and emergency repairs in a timely manner to help restore production.
• Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, parts usage, and equipment history.
• Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager and production team to complete electrical work with minimal disruption to operations.
• Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc flash (NFPA 70E), and all required electrical safety procedures when servicing equipment.
• Independently manage the electrical maintenance and repair needs of the assigned shift.
• Support and share technical knowledge with maintenance technicians and electricians in training as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; electrical apprenticeship, trade school, or equivalent technical training preferred.
• Valid electrician certification or license as required by applicable Louisiana regulations, or ability to obtain certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of industrial electrician experience, preferably in a sawmill, lumber, or heavy manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), industrial electrical safety standards including NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, and arc flash safety, with experience troubleshooting motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and industrial control systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals; work independently; and support rotating shifts, overtime, and on-call emergency repairs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
• Experience with sawmill-specific equipment and control systems.
• PLC programming experience (e.g., Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens).
• Experience with medium-voltage industrial electrical systems.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed primarily in sawmill, planer, and maintenance shop environments with exposure to noise, dust, heat, cold, moving machinery, energized electrical equipment, and varying temperatures.
• Regularly work in physically demanding conditions around industrial machinery, production equipment, and electrical systems.
• Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift, with the ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at varying heights, and enter confined spaces as required.
• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
• Regularly kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, stoop, reach, push, pull, and perform other repetitive tasks requiring physical activity.
• See, hear, communicate, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity, including the extended use of hand and power tools.
• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including arc-flash rated PPE where applicable, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots, in designated production and maintenance areas.
• Willing and able to respond to emergency electrical repairs outside of normal working hours as needed.
