Job summary

PA Consulting is seeking an Industrial Design Intern for a paid, in-person role in the US, approximately four months. You will work with industrial designers, engineers, strategists, and technologists to contribute from concept through execution.

Responsibilities include supporting the design process, communicating ideas through sketches and CAD, and collaborating across disciplines to solve complex challenges. Portfolio and hands-on prototyping are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Portfolio demonstrates thoughtful design process and visual storytelling.
• Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity with a growth mindset.
• Experience with 2D sketching, rendering, and 3D modeling preferred.
• Familiarity with Generative AI tools (e.g., Midjourney, Vizcom, Copilot) is a plus.

What you’ll do:

As an Industrial Design Intern, you'll work alongside our team and with our clients to develop innovative products and experiences. You will:

• Support the design process from research and ideation through concept development, refinement, and implementation.
• Communicate ideas through sketching, CAD modeling, rendering, prototyping, and storytelling, using both physical and digital tools.
• Collaborate across disciplines to solve complex challenges, contribute to client work, and support internal innovation initiatives.

What We're Looking For:

• You’re currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Industrial Design or a related field, with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for creativity, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Your portfolio demonstrates thoughtful design process, concept exploration, visual storytelling, aesthetic judgment, and well-crafted outcomes.
• You have proficiency in 2D design (sketching, visualization, Adobe Creative Suite) and 3D modeling and rendering (SolidWorks and KeyShot preferred), along with hands‑off.
• You possess strong communication and collaboration skills, with an interest in emerging technologies and Generative AI tools such as Midjourney, Vizcom, or Microsoft Copilot.

• Creative problem-solving and systems thinking.
• A clear and well-documented design process.
• Concept generation, development, and refinement.
• Physical prototyping and model-making capabilities.

Additional Information

Hybrid working - our approach is to be in the office or on client site a minimum of 2 days per week. However, the actual time you spend and where you spend it will vary by role or assignment, including up to 5 days per week as needed.

This salary range is specific to Massachusetts and is commensurate with experience, market data, applicant skills, internal equity and/or degrees/certifications. Salary Range: $33/hr
