Job summary

ZF in Charleston, SC is seeking a Controls Technician to support and maintain manufacturing equipment reliability. You will work with PLCs, robotics, vision systems, and industrial controls while collaborating with engineering and operations teams to drive continuous improvement.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED (an associate degree or technical certification is preferred) and 2+ years of related experience. Proficiency in MS Office and ability to read drawings are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree or technical certification is preferred.
• Two or more years of related experience in controls or electrical maintenance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
• Experience reading engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Experience designing/installing control systems using PLC ladder logic, VFDs, and servo systems.

Responsibilities

• Support and promote a safe work environment following company safety procedures.
• Identify deficiencies in equipment/control systems and develop corrective solutions.
• Develop and implement long-term improvements to control systems and equipment performance.
• Develop, modify, and optimize PLC- and PC-based control programs.
• Provide technical guidance on hardware/software/electrical systems to improve safety and reliability.
• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to improve equipment controls.
• Respond to shop-floor questions about PLC applications and training needs.
• Communicate technical issues clearly to maintenance and non-maintenance personnel.
