Job summary

Prysmian is seeking an Automation Engineer to own the reliability and evolution of the plant's automation, control systems, and SCADA stack. You will translate machine behavior into insights that improve uptime, enable smarter processes, and drive capital-backed improvements.

In the first 90 days, you’ll learn lines, refresh an ISA-101-aligned HMI, standardize tag naming, and lead an automation upgrade program.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical/Controls/Automation Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing controls experience.
  • Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix and Studio 5000 proficiency; Ethernet/IP fluency.
  • HMI development/troubleshooting with FactoryTalk View, InTouch, Red Lion, Ignition, or similar.
  • Industrial networking fundamentals: IP addressing, managed switches, VLANs, and protocols.
  • VFD setup, tuning, and integration.
  • Ability to read/create/interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and machine documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause skills.
  • Hands-on presence on the plant floor; committed to safe work with control and power voltages/currents.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer and sustain PLC logic in Studio 5000 for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix; maintain clean, standard-driven code.
  • Design HMIs using ISA-101 principles for clarity and speed.
  • Commission, integrate, and diagnose VFDs.
  • Lead SCADA architecture, dashboarding, historian integration, and reliable data acquisition.
  • Define data models and tag conventions; deliver dashboards, trends, and reports that guide operators, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Configure PLC-SCADA communications, OPC UA, and historian structures.
  • Develop and maintain industrial networking: Ethernet/IP, managed switches, and segmentation tuned to plant needs.
  • Be the primary technical authority for SCADA/data; ensure changes are controlled and thoroughly documented.
  • Own automation upgrades, controls retrofits, and new installs; write control specs, review vendor designs, manage schedules/budgets/integration, and support ROI and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Serve as escalation during downtime; build Maintenance troubleshooting capability; author standard work, playbooks, and training materials.
  • Advance continuous improvement across safety, quality, uptime, throughput, and scrap reduction.
  • Champion safety and compliance: electrical safety practices, arc-flash documentation, safe work policies, and energy isolation. Contribute to cybersecurity and formal change management.

Your mission

Own the reliability and evolution of our plant's automation, control systems, and SCADA stack. You'll translate machine behavior into insights that accelerate decisions, strengthen uptime, and pave the way for new equipment and smarter processes.

Impact in your first 90 days
  • Days 1-30: Learn the lines, review PLC/HMI code bases, map Ethernet/IP topologies and historian data flows, and align on controls standards (UDTs, AOIs, modular patterns).
  • Days 31-60: Deliver an ISA-101-aligned HMI refresh for a priority cell, standardize tag naming, implement a PLC-to-SCADA OPC UA improvement, and document backup/change procedures.
  • Days 61-90: Lead a targeted automation upgrade, tune critical VFDs, close a root-cause corrective action, and present a controls/SCADA roadmap with capital justifications.
How you'll contribute
  • Engineer and sustain PLC logic in Studio 5000 for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix; maintain clean, standard-driven code.
  • Design HMIs using high-performance (ISA-101) principles for clarity and speed.
  • Commission, integrate, and diagnose variable-frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Lead SCADA architecture, dashboarding, historian integration, and reliable data acquisition.
  • Define data models and tag conventions; deliver dashboards, trends, and reports that guide operators, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Configure PLC-SCADA communications, OPC UA, and historian structures.
  • Develop and maintain industrial networking: Ethernet/IP, managed switches, and segmentation tuned to plant needs.
  • Be the primary technical authority for SCADA/data; ensure changes are controlled and thoroughly documented.
  • Own automation upgrades, controls retrofits, and new installs; write control specs, review vendor designs, manage schedules/budgets/integration, and support ROI and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Serve as escalation during downtime; build Maintenance troubleshooting capability; author standard work, playbooks, and training materials.
  • Advance continuous improvement across safety, quality, uptime, throughput, and scrap reduction.
  • Champion safety and compliance: electrical safety practices, arc-flash documentation, safe work policies, and energy isolation. Contribute to cybersecurity and formal change management.
