Job description

We are seeking an Industrial Controls Engineer to support the design, development, fabrication, and testing of electrical control systems used in industrial and process applications. This position is involved throughout the full project lifecycle—from estimating and equipment selection through control panel design, system integration, installation, and final testing.

The Industrial Controls Engineer will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and project teams to develop reliable control solutions that meet customer specifications and operating requirements. Projects may include standalone control panels as well as electrical controls integrated into skid-mounted process systems.

The ideal candidate will have experience or knowledge in industrial electrical controls, control panel design and fabrication, instrumentation, and process systems, along with strong technical problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate electrical and controls designs based on customer specifications and project requirements.
  • Select appropriate electrical equipment, controls, instrumentation, components, and materials for industrial systems.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to obtain technical information, pricing, and quotations for required components.
  • Create, review, revise, and approve electrical schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and general assembly drawings.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, process, and piping requirements.
  • Support and oversee the fabrication, assembly, wiring, and installation of electrical control systems.
  • Provide technical guidance during the construction and integration of control panels and skid-mounted equipment.
  • Develop testing procedures to verify electrical system functionality and performance.
  • Participate in system testing, troubleshooting, and problem resolution during fabrication and commissioning.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and project teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting project deadlines.
  • Provide a high level of service and technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of electrical controls and industrial control systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar drafting/design software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and develop electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Ability and willingness to learn PLC and HMI design, programming, and configuration.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and customers.
  • Strong customer-service mindset and professional approach to problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant engineering, electrical controls, or industrial experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with control valves, steam systems, instrumentation, process controls, or industrial equipment is highly desirable.
  • Experience with electrical control panel design and fabrication is preferred.
  • Familiarity with industrial process piping and skid-mounted systems is a plus.
  • Experience working with PLC/HMI systems is beneficial.
  • Relevant industry experience may be considered in place of a four-year degree, particularly for candidates with a strong background in electrical controls and process systems.
