Job summary

Hive is hiring an Embedded Software Engineer to connect industrial vehicles to our AI platform. You will develop low-level controls, vehicle interfaces, and PLC integration, working across CAN networks and Beckhoff systems.

The role involves debug, test, and deployment across customer sites, with hands-on commissioning and travel expectations. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in embedded software, strong C/C++ skills, and experience with CAN, J1939, RTOS or embedded Linux.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in embedded software or machine-controls development.
• Strong C/C++ development and debugging skills.
• Experience with MCU, RTOS, embedded Linux or industrial control platforms.
• Hands-on with CAN, CAN FD, J1939 and proprietary protocols.
• Experience using CANalyzer, CANoe, PCAN, or Kvaser tools.
• Beckhoff PLCs and TwinCAT experience.
• Knowledge of IEC 61131-3 languages, especially Structured Text.
• Understanding real-time controls, state machines, diagnostics and fault handling.
• Experience integrating software with sensors, actuators, vehicle controllers.
• Willingness to travel for customer site deployments.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and reverse-engineer CAN, J1939, and proprietary vehicle protocols.
• Capture and interpret vehicle network traffic using CAN analysis tools.
• Develop and maintain DBC files, signal mappings, command interfaces, and diagnostics.
• Implement embedded software for vehicle commands, feedback, state machines, interlocks, and fault handling.
• Develop and maintain gateways between Hive systems and OEM controllers.
• Work with Beckhoff PLC systems, TwinCAT, EtherCAT, and IEC 61131-3 apps.
• Understand, modify, and troubleshoot existing PLC control logic.
• Support integration with legacy Beckhoff PLC-based controls.
• Develop bench tests, simulators, automated tests, and hardware-in-the-loop systems.
• Debug communication and control issues during machine bring-up.
• Document vehicle protocols and create reusable embedded integration packages.
• Collaborate with electrical, robotics software, and vehicle integration engineers.
