CraftMark Bakery is seeking an Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration & Utilities Technician to safeguard ammonia systems and keep plant utilities running safely through the night. You’ll operate boilers, HVAC, chillers, and water systems while coordinating with Maintenance and production teams.

The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, familiarity with IIAR standards, and a commitment to safety. Night shifts are 12 hours on a 2-2-3 rotation with a sign-on bonus and benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree/certs preferred.
• Experience with industrial ammonia refrigeration and multi-stage systems is expected.
• Knowledge of IIAR standards and boiler operation preferred.

Responsabilités

• Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems.
• Run and repair boilers, HVAC, chillers, pumps, compressors, and related equipment.
• Oversee water, sanitary, and water treatment systems; maintain building infrastructure.
• Collaborate with Maintenance and cross-functional teams on production priorities.
• Support PSM practices and Emergency Response activities.

As our Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration & Utilities Technician, you are the guardian of the plant’s critical utilities—keeping ammonia systems stable, boilers reliable, HVAC efficient, and production running safely through the night.Key factsReports to: Facilities ManagerEmployment type: HourlyPay range: $36.00 – $42.00 per hourShift: Nights, 5pm–5am (2-2-3 rotation)Bonus: $5,000 sign-on bonusWhy CraftMarkPTO starting Day 1Affordable medical, dental, and vision coverage401(k)Quarterly attendance bonusRelocation assistance (available)12-hour shifts on a 2-2-3 scheduleModern, automated bakery with a strong safety and quality cultureWhat you’ll doOperate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain ammonia (NH₃) refrigeration systems to sustain safe, efficient plant operations.Run and repair boilers, HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, air dryers, and freezers.Oversee potable/non‑potable water, sanitary, stormwater, and water treatment systems.Repair rapid roll-up doors, hot water systems, and building infrastructure (including the roof).Collaborate closely with Maintenance and cross-functional partners on production priorities.Support compliance with IIAR, ASHRAE, ASME, EPA, OSHA, and applicable state/local regulations.Apply strong troubleshooting skill in ammonia systems and uphold Process Safety Management (PSM) practices.Primary activities you’ll ownMake safety your first decision, every time.Keep assigned machinery running smoothly; complete PMs on schedule.Continuously monitor refrigeration performance and analyze trends to optimize maintenance frequency.Document contractor activities related to refrigeration; help sustain the PSM program.Serve on the Emergency Response Team.Train Maintenance Technicians on refrigeration system operation.Other duties as assigned.Who you areExperienced with industrial utilities and ammonia refrigeration (NH₃).Strong mechanical aptitude with proven diagnostic and repair ability.Comfortable working within safety and regulatory frameworks.Clear communicator, collaborative teammate, and effective coach.Organized, detail-focused, and self-directed.Qualifications5+ years operating and maintaining industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.High school diploma or GED required.Associate’s degree in HVACR, Refrigeration/Electrical, RETA/CIRO certificates, trade school certification, or equivalent strongly preferred.Hands-on experience with multi-stage ammonia compression and liquid recirculation systems.Comfort with complex electrical controls (e.g., GEA or Frick).Ability to read and interpret P&IDs.Experience with screw compressors, evaporative condensers, and room evaporators.Knowledge of IIAR standards; experience with boiler operations and inspections.Plumbing and pipefitting skills; maintenance of air compressors, dryers, roll-up and dock doors/levelers.Fluent in LOTO, PPE, and HazCom requirements.Capable of explaining the physics of the refrigeration cycle.Technical proficienciesHVAC/R & Refrigeration Systems; Ammonia RefrigerationMechanical troubleshooting; diagnostics & repair120/208/240/480V systems; industrial/commercial electrical installation, wiring, schematics, and troubleshootingEPA certification; HVAC maintenanceBoiler operation & troubleshootingEquipment installation, repair & maintenanceBuilding infrastructure and roll-up doorsMachines & technologies you’ll useHVAC SystemsRefrigeration/Cooling SystemsPhysical demands & work environmentPhysical: Stand 3–5 hours at a time; walk; use hands to finger/handle/feel; reach; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; talk/hear; taste/smell.
