Job summary

Hamilton Tanks is seeking an Industrial Abrasive Blasting Technician to prepare, blast, inspect, and finish steel tanks on the shop floor in Columbus, OH. You will set up blasting equipment, load media, regulate pressures, and direct nozzles to remove rust and coatings, ensuring the surface meets specifications.

You will report to the Shop Supervisor and contribute to quality, safety, and throughput with hands-on duties and PPE compliance throughout the shift.

Job description

Join Hamilton Tanks as an Industrial Abrasive Blasting TechnicianPicture your first hour on the floor: you gear up, step into the blast booth, set the right pressure, and strip layers of scale, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt from heavy steel tanks. With steady hands and a sharp eye, you deliver the exact surface profile our welders and painters rely on. When the workpiece leaves your station, it meets spec—every time.You will report directly to the Shop Supervisor and play a critical role in quality, safety, and throughput.What you’ll doPrepare and clean products by removing grease and dirt prior to blasting.Load abrasive media (sand, grit, or steel shot of specified grade) into hoppers.Set up, start, and maintain blasting equipment; regulate pressures to ensure safe, efficient performance.Direct blast nozzles to remove rust and coatings; use scrapers, brushes, and abrasive papers as needed.Examine finished material and verify conformance to quality specifications.Physical demandsStanding for over 8 hours a dayLifting and carrying 50 poundsPushing and/or pulling 50 poundsWalking on variable terrain (loose gravel, concrete flooring, asphalt)Turning/twisting/bending at the waistForward and overhead reachingAbility to wear respiratory protection for over 4 hours a dayWhat you bringHigh school diploma or equivalent, requiredExperience as an abrasive blaster or in a related field, preferredKnowledge of a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures or willingness and ability to train on other equipment and/or processesWorking knowledge of manual sand and grit blasting machines, materials, processes, and practicesGeneral knowledge of hand tools (chipping hammer and wire brush) and power tools (grinder, belt sander, palm sander)Able to continuously demonstrate safe work practicesVisual acuity and peripheral perception of 70 degreesPre-employment screenings (verbatim)Ability to pass background check, drug test, fit for duty test, and Respirator Fit Test (Pulmonary Function Test)Compensation and benefitsGenerous benefit package with medical, dental, vision, short & long term disability401kPaid time off (PTO)10 paid holidaysCompensation will be based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skill level
