Pasadena Humane is seeking an Individual Giving Manager to lead the strategy for cultivating and soliciting individual donors at the major gift level. You will manage a portfolio of 100–150 prospects with capacity at $1,200+ and work across the organization to deepen the major gifts pipeline.

  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the individuals in the portfolio through substantive interactions that include face-to-face cultivation, and solicitation and stewardship meetings.
  • Support the fundraising efforts of the Chief Philanthropy Officer, executive team and CEO in securing new and renewed gifts.
  • Conduct both internal and external presentations as needed. Coordinates and participates in speaking engagements to donor groups.

JOB SUMMAR Y

The Individual Giving Manager is responsible for the strategic identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual prospects with capacity at the $1,200+ level. The position will manage a portfolio of prospects and work independently and collaboratively across the organization to deepen the major gifts pipeline and secure meaningful gifts for Pasadena Humane.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a personal portfolio of major gift prospects (defined as those giving a gift of $1,200+ in support of Pasadena Humane), as well as those donors and prospects that have the capacity to give at the major gift level or higher.
  • Develop collaborative solicitation strategies for donors / prospects in support of Pasadena Humane; ensure strategies are compatible and maximize opportunities with other existing appeals.
  • Develop written strategies that ensure each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, and that the strategy is communicated with appropriate team members and volunteers.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of 100 to 150 prospects, developing and implementing a written donor strategy and relationship record of all interactions.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the individuals in the portfolio through substantive interactions that include face-to-face cultivation, and solicitation and stewardship meetings.
  • Support the fundraising efforts of the Chief Philanthropy Officer, executive team and CEO in securing new and renewed gifts.
  • Conduct both internal and external presentations as needed. Coordinates and participates in speaking engagements to donor groups.
  • With the Chief Philanthropy Officer, manage and report on progress to goals including pending and actual gifts, and pledges.
  • Work with the Development team to screen and prepare profiles of current and prospective donors.
  • Ensure proper donor recognition in all publications and oversee accurate donor lists for those publications.
  • Work with the Development team and other relevant Pasadena Humane staff to strategize and help execute cultivation and stewardship events for major donors and prospects. Schedule, coordinate, and lead donor tours.
  • Be a visible presence at special events, such as major donor cultivation events and fundraisers. Implement event follow-up strategies
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Development team build a detailed campaign plan and calendar to achieve campaign goals.
  • Work with the Chief Philanthropy Officer to set priorities; manage and adjust the work plan and calendar as needed.
  • Develop a deep understanding of potential campaign priorities and the Pasadena Humane history.
  • Effectively use donor communications materials including (but not limited to) letters, emails, and tailored outreach materials.
  • Work collaboratively with the Development team to ensure that volunteers are included in donor engagement appropriately. Ensure that volunteer communications related to major gift donor cultivation is clear, timely and complete.
  • Working with the Chief Philanthropy Officer develop a strategy for outreach to and stewardship of planned giving prospects and donors.
  • Convey the organization’s mission to the community, donors, and volunteers while maintaining tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Record contacts in database and maintains accurate donor records and up-to-date major donor files.
  • Partner with the Gift Processing Manager and team for timely gift processing, database research and administrative support.
  • Maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with other departments.
  • Enforces and adheres to operational standards regarding safety and risk management. Ensure a safe working environment and actively participate in safety programs.
  • Subscribes and adhere to AFP's Code of Ethical Principles and Standards, promote the Donor Bill of Rights, and maintain donor confidentiality at all times.
  • Upholds Pasadena Humane's mission and Core Values and contributes to building a culture of philanthropy.
  • Participates as needed in special projects.
  • Works as a team member with other departmental managers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in donor relations in a non-profit organization. Experience in animal welfare or animal shelter preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in communications or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience in stewarding donors at all levels
  • Proficient in MS Office, CRM and social media platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in composing donor stewardship materials. Significant experience in writing, editing, and proofreading copy for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and volunteers across the organization and communicate with kindness.
  • Strong sense of professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
