Job description

Future Opening: Individual Giving Manager
Company Description

Metanoia is an established leader in asset-based community development in the Charleston region. We seek to support the development of a community that enjoys a sense of belonging, where we uphold each other, and where we find comfort in shared life experiences. We do this by seeking out and honing the unique assets that exist within the community. We listen to each others needs, helping to shape next-generation leaders, building affordable housing, and facilitating greater job opportunities.

Why work for Metanoia?

We believe everyone has the inherent right to live well, in the places they love and call home. But like too many other historically marginalized communities, the assets within it — including its people, places and partnerships — are often undervalued or even unrecognized. Over time, this can create a sense of diminished possibilities. Metanoia is here to help reverse this trend by seeking out the unique assets that exist within the community and building on those strengths. When we invest in each other in this way, we can open hearts and minds to all that’s possible, inspiring a belief that we can all live in this place, and live well.

Job Summary

The Individual Giving Manager will report to the Director of Strategic Philanthropy and will build and deepen meaningful relationships with individual donors and prospective supporters who help sustain Metanoias work. This individual will create thoughtful, consistent, and personalized opportunities for donors to feel connected not only to an organization, but also to a community Metanoia walks alongside in the Chicora and surrounding historically Black neighborhoods.

This is a relationship-centered fundraising role for someone who understands that generosity grows through trust, listening, consistency, and authentic human connection. In a time when philanthropy can easily become automated, transactional, and impersonal, the Individual Giving Manager will help Metanoia take a different approach, create and build donor relationships that are personal, grounded in authentic connection to the organization, and meaningful.

The Individual Giving Manager will lead Metanoias individual giving efforts through intentional stewardship, year-round engagement, personalized outreach and relationship building. This individual will help donors understand the impact of their giving, strengthen donor retention and recurring giving, welcome new supporters into deeper connection with the organization, and create pathways for donors to stay engaged over time.

The ideal candidate will be a strong relationship builder who can translate Metanoias mission, values, and strategic priorities into donor experiences that reflect the organizations deeply relational approach to community development — one rooted in listening constantly, walking with families, building on strengths, releasing brilliance, and rejecting barriers.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; or minimum of 5 years of experience in individual giving, annual giving, donor engagement, development, nonprofit fundraising, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success building and stewarding donor relationships that lead to retention, renewal, and increased giving over time.
  • Experience managing donor communications, stewardship systems, and relationship-based fundraising efforts.
  • Experience using CRM or donor database systems to track fundraising and donor activity, manage donor records, and support fundraising strategy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate impact in a compelling, respectful, and donor-centered manner.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple relationships, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and contribute to a mission-driven, relational centered workplace culture.
  • Experience working in a community-based nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Experience supporting recurring giving programs, donor retention strategies and long-term donor engagement.
  • Familiarity with strengths-based, equity-centered, and community-rooted approaches to fundraising.

Metanoia is an established leader in asset-based community development in the Charleston region. We pursue an innovative model that supports communities in discovering and growing the assets of distressed neighborhoods, so that community health is restored from the inside out. We support a movement that champions thriving schools and businesses, enhancing core economic and social sustainability.

Why work for Metanoia? Metanoia arrives at strong community participation by obeying the 'Iron Rule' of community organizing - to never do for people what they can do for themselves. And by always requiring an exchange for any opportunities we present to the community. For example, our after-school programs are not free to parents but charge four hours-worth of community participation a month. By creating systems of exchange, we create a sense of pride and ownership that local residents feel toward Metanoia. The highest compliment that is paid to us is when residents refer to Metanoia as "us" or "we" rather than "them." To learn more about our organization please visit our website at metanoiasc.org.
