Job summary

Avalara seeks a senior leader to head the Indirect Tax Content Research team. You will guide 15 tax researchers across US and Canada, shaping AI-enabled tax content for AvaTax, Tax Research, and ECM, while owning customer escalations and ensuring governance that scales with rapid regulatory change.

You’ll drive AI adoption, establish defensible workflows, and partner with Product, Engineering, and Support to keep content accurate and up-to-date in Avalara’s tax automation suite.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in accounting/finance/tax/law
• 8+ years indirect tax research/ compliance experience in US/Canada
• 2+ years leadership of tax teams with measurable results
• Hands-on AI tools experience in research workflows
• Strong analytical and legal research skills
• Clear communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Direct the Indirect Tax Content Research team for US/Canada across multiple Avalara products
• Own customer-facing tax content escalations and drive timely resolution
• Deliver on the AI roadmap with governance and defensible content production
• Maintain AI governance and guardrails in tax content workflows
• Translate evolving indirect tax rules into actionable content and guidance
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Support to align content priorities
• Scale repeatable operating rhythms and review standards across the team
• Coach and develop team members; manage workload and performance
• Stay current on US/Canadian indirect tax developments and emerging AI opportunities
