Job summary

Cogent Communications is seeking an Indirect Tax Manager to oversee the Company’s U.S. indirect tax compliance across jurisdictions, including sales and use tax, property tax, and regulatory filings.

This role acts as a key resource to Tax, Accounting, Finance, Legal, and Operations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. The position combines technical tax knowledge with hands-on compliance management, process improvement, and cross-functional partnership in a

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of progressive indirect tax experience.
• Strong experience with U.S. sales and use tax compliance and research.
• Experience with property tax, business licenses, and other state and local tax compliance matters.
• Telecommunications industry tax experience is preferred.
• Experience with ERP and tax technology systems; familiarity with Great Plains or Avalara is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage sales and use tax compliance process across jurisdictions (monthly/quarterly/annual).
• Oversee filings, registrations, exemptions, and audits; monitor tax law changes.
• Manage personal property tax compliance and filings; coordinate appeals as needed.
• Oversee business licenses and regulatory filings across jurisdictions.
• Provide indirect tax guidance on contracts, expansions, and new locations.
• Identify opportunities to automate and improve tax processes.
