Job summary

Amrize is seeking a Director of Indirect Taxes to lead the US Indirect Tax team and oversee all related tax areas for a public company. The role emphasizes compliance, audits, and strategic planning across states and tax types.

You will drive automation, mentor a high‑performing team, and advise executives on tax implications of transactions while ensuring timely reporting and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive US indirect tax experience, with prior leadership in a publicly traded company.
  • Deep knowledge of multi-state sales & use, property, excise, and fuels tax regulations.
  • Demonstrated track record in tax automation, SOX control management, and indirect tax planning.
  • Strong leadership skills with the commitment to developing and scaling teams across multiple locations, including offshore shared services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and empower the US Indirect Tax team, fostering a collaborative, transparent, and improvement-minded culture.
  • Oversee filing and reporting for US Sales & Use Tax, Property Tax, excise tax, and fuels tax.
  • Manage SOX internal controls for indirect tax processes in a public company environment.
  • Advise business leaders on indirect tax implications of acquisitions, divestitures, and capex.
  • Drive tax automation initiatives and cross-functional collaboration to improve data quality.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure ongoing corporate compliance.
  • Lead state tax and property tax audits to favorable resolutions.
  • Partner with external consultants on complex tax projects.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Indirect Taxes will lead the US Indirect Tax team, overseeing all aspects of indirect tax, including but not limited to sales and use tax, property tax, excise tax, and fuels tax. This role is responsible for indirect tax compliance, audit defense, accounting, SOX controls, and strategic tax planning for a publicly traded company. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of continuous improvement, drive technology automation, advise senior leadership on commercial transactions, and mentor a high-performing team.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
  • Lead, mentor, and empower the US Indirect Tax team, fostering a transparent, collaborative, and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Establish cross-training and professional development initiatives to build bench strength, promote career growth, and ensure team scalability.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing and reporting for all US Sales & Use Tax, Property Tax, Annual Reports, excise tax, and fuels tax.
  • Maintain and execute SOX internal controls for indirect tax processes within a public company environment.
  • Oversee indirect and property tax accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Advise business leaders on indirect tax implications related to acquisitions, divestitures, capital expenditures, and daily commercial activities.
  • Identify, develop, and implement US state indirect tax planning opportunities and tax reduction strategies.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes to assess operational impact and ensure ongoing corporate compliance.
  • Manage state indirect tax and property tax audits, inquiries, and regulatory notices to favorable resolutions.
  • Identify tax incentive, refund, and savings opportunities, directing external consultants on specialized tax projects.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal business units, finance teams, external consultants, and financial statement auditors.
  • Drive automation initiatives and systems enhancements to reduce manual processes and improve data quality across ERP and tax source systems.
  • Establish and standardize best-practice workflows for exemption certificate management and tax compliance.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Additional Education Preferred: Master’s Degree

Required Work Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive US indirect tax experience, with prior leadership in a publicly traded company.
  • Deep knowledge of multi-state sales & use, property, excise, and fuels tax regulations.

Required Training/Certifications: CPA, MST, or JD preferred

Travel Requirements: 30%
