Job summary

44 North Credit Union is seeking an Indirect Lending Underwriter to assess members' financial pictures and decide on loan approvals within the indirect lending channel.

You will maintain dealer relationships, manage workflow for internet loans, troubleshoot funding, and help other lending staff while upholding credit union policies and prudent risk practices.

This role supports a collaborative team and may require overtime to meet lending goals.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates timely processing to reach a loan decision.
• Maintain a healthy relationship with dealers while balancing member finances.
• Manage workflow/distribution of internet loans.
• Troubleshoot funding issues.
• Assist other lending staff in decisions, procedures, etc.
• Identify opportunities to save members money via consolidation or refinancing.
• Determine collateral needs and payment plans.
• Interpret Board Policies and Procedures in the approval process.
• Authorize changes in loan terms, waiver of payment, due date changes.
• Enter loan data and disburse funds.
• Develop an understanding of credit union history, philosophy, organization, bylaws and procedures.
• Assist in any other area as directed by supervisor.
• Must be flexible to work overtime as needed (may include weekends).

Job description

Our Indirect Lending Underwriters primarily process credit applications received from the credit union’s indirect lending channel and secondarily assist Loan Consultants with lending decisions. The Indirect Lending Underwriter (ILU) is skilled in assessing the member’s financial picture and has the decision‑making authority on loans. The Underwriter works on behalf of the credit union to ensure a sound overall loan portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Facilitates the timely processing of loans to bring the application to the point that a decision can be reached to approve or deny the loan.


• Maintain a healthy working relationship with dealers, while balancing the needs of the members’ finances and the credit union portfolio.


• Manage workflow/distribution of internet loans.


• Troubleshoot funding issues


• Assist other lending staff in decisions, procedures, etc.


• Skilled in recognizing opportunities that we may be able to assist the member in saving money through the consolidation and/or refinancing of other debts


• Determine collateral needs and payment plans


• Ability to interpret Board Policies and Procedures involved in the approval process


• Authorize changes in loan terms, waiver of payment, due date changes, etc.


• Enter loan on computer and disburse funds as required


• Develop an understanding of credit union history, philosophy, organization, bylaws and operational procedures


• Assist in any other area as directed by supervisor


• Must be flexible to work overtime as needed (may include weekends)
