Job summary

Austin Lighthouse for the Blind seeks an Independent Living Specialist to help individuals regain skills and independence in their homes. This role involves one-on-one work with recently blind or visually impaired individuals, ensuring they feel safe while performing daily tasks.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and delivering curriculum and training programs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement curriculum and training programs in the community.
• Engage customers to achieve independence goals.
• Lead group activities and individual skill-building sessions.
• Support daily living activities and encourage independence.
• Assist with cooking, laundry, hygiene, money management, transportation, social and recreational skills.
• Model and teach daily living tasks with participants.
• Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality with clients.
• Document progress with clear case notes and data records.
• Participate in mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
