Job summary

Washington State Department of Services for the Blind is seeking a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist - Senior Itinerant to assess adaptive skills of customers with blindness, deaf-blindness, and low vision for activities of daily living and employment readiness.

The role involves applying advanced training methods, recommending curriculum, and implementing training for customers and employers across the state.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in blind or vision rehabilitation or related field.
• COMS certification required or within qualification.
• Bachelor’s degree in blind/vision rehab + 3 years of relevant experience + COMS certification.
• Experience teaching adaptive skills and using assistive technologies is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conducts comprehensive assessments of customers referred for vocational rehabilitation services.
• Assesses and measures customer readiness for training and quest for solutions.
• Develops training plans and coordinates statewide training responsibilities.
• Provides education to businesses, customers, community partners, and employers.

Education

Master’s degree in blind or vision rehabilitation

COMS certification

Bachelor’s degree in blind or vision rehabilitation

Three years of paid professional experience in adaptive skills of blindness
