Job summary

Shoals is seeking an Receiving Inspector I for the 1st shift in Portland, TN. This role ensures that incoming materials and components are inspected to meet customer, regulatory, and internal standards.

You will document inspections, manage failure logs, and support testing and material characterization. The ideal candidate can read technical drawings, measure with calipers and micrometers, and maintain meticulous records using Excel and related tools.

Qualifications

• Attention to detail with sensitivity to minute differences among similar looking products.
• Ability to read technical drawings and understand specifications and tolerances.
• Ability to measure using standard and metric tools (calipers, micrometers, tapes) and use test instruments.
• Strong written and verbal communication; capable of maintaining clear records.
• Experience creating and updating documentation to support inspection processes.
• Familiarity with quality tools like 5-Why and Fishbone Diagrams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook, and willingness to learn Minitab or QI Macros.

Responsibilities

• Perform incoming visual and dimensional inspection of materials and parts.
• Verify materials meet customer, statutory, and regulatory requirements and certificates of conformance.
• Maintain and organize inspection sheets, failure logs, and testing reports.
• Read and interpret manufacturer datasheets and certificates of conformance.
• Participate in higher level testing or stress/environmental tests as needed.
• Document inspection results and facilitate product understanding through new records.
