Job summary

YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is seeking a part-time School Age Services - Inclusion Assistant/Paraprofessional in West TN to support individuals with disabilities in Y programs, promoting participation and independence.

The role emphasizes positive behavior guidance, collaboration with staff and families, and modification of activities to fit each participant's needs, while maintaining confidentiality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior experience working with youth is required.
• Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
• Excellent verbal communication skills; ability to tailor messages to multiple audiences.
• Passion for working with diverse youth and ability to provide high-quality instruction.
• Ability to observe student behavior and apply behavior management techniques.
• Proven ability to establish constructive relationships and be a positive role model.
• Continuous learner who seeks learning opportunities and applies new knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Modify activities, rules, equipment, and/or supplies to promote participation and independence.
• Maintain confidentiality of information regarding the individuals you support.
• Modify recreational activities to fit individual needs (arts, sports, crafts, games).
• Model positive behaviors and use age-appropriate reinforcement and management strategies.
• Implement individualized behavior management plans when necessary.
• Communicate with supervisor, team leader, and team members to stay informed and plan modifications.
• Provide weekly summaries of the individual’s participation to parents and the Director of Exceptional Children.
• Take on additional duties as assigned to meet program needs.
