Job summary

The Root Farm, operated by Upstate Caring Partners in Sauquoit, NY, is seeking a Recreation Program Specialist to design and lead inclusive outdoor education and adventure-based programs for people of all abilities.

You will facilitate challenge courses, build partnerships with schools and community groups, and coach staff and volunteers to deliver safe, engaging experiences that foster confidence, teamwork, and personal growth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• At least 12 months working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Experience in outdoor education and challenge course facilitation.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Knowledge of Therapeutic Recreation and Positive Behavior Supports.
• Ability to make independent decisions and ensure safety.

Responsibilities

• Lead adventure-based learning experiences with inclusive recreation programs.
• Build partnerships with schools, community organizations, and youth groups.
• Coordinate field trips, outdoor learning, and team-building events.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment and supervise staff/volunteers.
• Ensure safety and monitor program outcomes for continuous improvement.
