Qualifications

  • Certified by DPI in Special Education.
  • Urban education teaching experience preferred.
  • Plan and prepare rigorous lessons and communicate with staff and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the educational philosophy of the School and for carrying out the policies of the Board of Directors.
  • Consult and correspond with parents, staff and administration i.e. phone, email, written, etc
  • Participate in parent conferences and IEP meetings when necessary
  • Direct and evaluates the learning experience of the student in classroom and assigned co-curricular activities
  • Provide guidance which will promote the welfare and educational development of the student
  • Use effective teaching techniques that will foster optimal student learning
  • Plan and deliver instruction based on the curriculum adopted by the School and needs of the individual student including modifications, adaptations, etc
  • Plan a variety of instructional activities to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, preferably in inclusionary settings
  • Establish and maintains an inclusionary/resource classroom environment that is orderly and conducive to optimal learning
  • Participate as an evaluator in the special education referral and assessment process when called upon
  • Insure that students with disabilities are assisted in the necessary remediation of health, attitude, and learning concerns by providing appropriate instruction and working cooperatively with general classroom staff.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with students, staff, and parents that will promote effective communication
