Job summary

Fox Valley Special Recreation Association is seeking a Part-time Inclusive Special Needs Assistant to support individuals with disabilities in Park District programs, before/after school care, and preschool settings. Responsibilities include facilitating participation, modeling instructions, promoting social interaction, and ensuring safety.

Prior daycare or camp experience is preferred; strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 16+ years of age preferred
• Desire to work with school-age children with or without disabilities
• Experience in a daycare, day camp, or before/after school program preferred
• Must understand needs of people with disabilities and adapt activities to promote participation
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and oral) under stress

Responsibilities

• Support individuals with disabilities in program activities and inclusion efforts
• Attend meetings, in-services, and training required by FVSRA or staff
• Implement modifications to maximize participation and accessibility
• Model clear instructions and promote social interaction
• Promote safety and positive behaviors per guidelines
• Assist with setup/cleanup of spaces and supervision of participants
• Document behavior reports within required timeframes
• Communicate accidents, unsafe conditions, or concerns promptly
