Location: New York or Washington, DC Schedule: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM FLSA: Exempt Position Type: Full-Time/Regular

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an Inclusion Manager in the Opportunity & Inclusion department, reporting to the Director of Inclusion. The role can reside in the New York or Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for managing and overseeing the firm’s opportunity & inclusion initiatives, including supporting the firmwide opportunity & inclusion committee, local inclusion councils and firmwide resource groups, responding to surveys and requests for information, marketing materials, and sponsorships, and managing the work of the Inclusion Coordinator.

The Inclusion Manager is expected to serve as a positive role model and mentor, and to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, efficient and effective departmental operations, and an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Inclusion Manager must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm's Core Values.

Key responsibilities of this position include:
  • Manage and oversee tasks and duties related to internal and external opportunity & inclusion initiatives.
  • Prepare initial drafts for Director's review and approval of inclusion-related communications, reports and surveys requiring quantitative and qualitative research, analysis and evaluation, ensuring grammatical and stylistic accuracy, conformance with established procedures, and unfailing accuracy. Examples include the firm inclusion profile, internal announcements, presentations, correspondence letters, etc.
  • Apprise Director of Inclusion of current opportunity and inclusion issues and potential problems as they develop, seeking advice and guidance as needed.
  • Manage and participate in firmwide Opportunity & Inclusion Committee and office Opportunity & Inclusion Council meetings as necessary and oversee completion of agendas and summaries for circulation; prepare meeting correspondence and reports, working with all firm constituents and stakeholders, including attorneys and department leadership throughout the firm.
  • Provide support to the Firmwide Resource Groups, including Executive Sponsors, Chairs, Vice Chairs, and group members in the development and execution of related events, meetings, initiatives, and agenda, and oversee logistical and administrative support by Coordinator.
  • Oversee collection and preparation of inclusion-related statistical information for firmwide reports, RFPs, committee meetings, and other requests, as needed, liaising with the Human Resources department on necessary data and historical materials.
  • Manage the firm's internal Opportunity & Inclusion portal page and inclusion-related content on the external Akin Gump website.
  • Coordinate with other firm departments and offices on inclusion-related initiatives including internal training opportunities, sponsorships of job fairs, attendance at opportunity & inclusion events, benchmarking assessments, surveys, and competitive and marketplace research on diversity trends.
  • Support the design and delivery of opportunity & inclusion training programs.
  • Attend meetings as requested to provide information and serve as a point of contact/resource for opportunity & inclusion initiatives.
  • Serve as liaison with internal and external parties on matters related to the firm's opportunity & inclusion initiatives (e.g., answer questions concerning activities and transmit instructions and or information to and from members of the Opportunity & Inclusion Councils and Resource Groups).
  • Track, monitor and maintain accurate accounts of all expenses and balances to support adherence to the Inclusion program budget.
  • Other related tasks as required and assigned.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of five years related experience in a law firm, government agency, or professional services organization desired, including at least two years of supervisory or project management responsibility.
  • Marketing and communications experience preferred.
  • Track, monitor and maintain accurate accounts of all expenses and balances to support adherence to the Inclusion program budget.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers; attorneys; office, firm and practice management; and outside business partners.
  • Demonstrated experience synthesizing data and human capital demographics.
  • Ability to design and facilitate training and other presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with specific deadlines and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and comfort leveraging AI-enabled tools and technologies to enhance productivity, support decision-making, and improve work outcomes.

The anticipated base salary range for this position in New York and Washington, DC is $145,000 to $190,000. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, years of relevant experience, certifications or other professional licenses held, job-related knowledge and skills, business needs, and the location from which the work will be performed. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package, which may also include a full range of health and other insurance benefits, financial and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility), a discretionary bonus, and various paid time off benefits.
