Job summary

Sci High in New Orleans is seeking an experienced Special Education Instructional Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities within an inclusive classroom. You will collaborate with the Exceptional Children’s Services team and general education staff to implement accommodations and promote academic and social growth.

The role emphasizes collaboration, planning, and adherence to IEP goals, while maintaining a supportive, respectful environment for all students.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Special Education Paraprofessional in an inclusion setting.
• Experience collaborating with both Special Education and General Education teachers.
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support and accommodations within inclusive setting in collaboration with the general education co-teacher.
• Meet regularly with the general education co-teacher to discuss texts, assignments, tests and projects ahead of implementation.
• Collaborate on grades and behavior expectations for identified students.
• Lead planning for small-group testing needs and adapt tests to student needs.
• Help coordinate student transitions between courses, e.g., English 9 to 10 accommodations.
• Monitor progress toward IEP goals and graduation, communicating performance expectations to students.
• Promote independence, self-concept, social skills and self-help skills.
• Ensure documentation is maintained per district policy and state/federal law.
