Qualifications

  • Certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider and First Aid required within three months of employment.
  • Experience working with individuals/children with disabilities and/or IEPs preferred.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers a safe and excellent customer service experience to residents, members and patrons.
  • Enforces policies and procedures and suggests changes when necessary.
  • Provides support to a person with a disability as assigned by Inclusion Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor; follows recommendations for person-specific needs.
  • Works cooperatively with Inclusion Coordinator and communicates to ensure success.
  • Inspects program area for safety prior to each class/activity and reports concerns.
  • Notifies supervisors of scheduling changes and arranges substitutes when possible.
  • Keeps supervisors informed of information regarding facilities, staff, or the public.
  • Requests equipment and supplies from the Supervisor in advance of class start date.
  • Maintains any necessary discipline-specific certifications.
  • Completes accident/incident reports when incidents occur.
  • Attends staff meetings or training sessions as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

TITLE: Inclusion Aide

DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation

STATUS: Part-Time

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to support persons with disabilities enrolled in Clayton Parks and Recreation sponsored programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Delivers a safe and excellent customer service experience to our residents, members and patrons.
  2. Enforces and adheres to existing policies and procedures and suggests changes in current practices when necessary.
  3. Provide support to a person with a disability as assigned by inclusion coordinator and/or recreation supervisor; follow all recommendations from the Inclusion Coordinator regarding "person specific needs," ranging from physically supporting a person to verbal prompts.
  4. Work cooperatively with Inclusion Coordinator, communicating to ensure success, when it is questionable.
  5. Inspect program area for safety prior to every class/activity meeting; inform Recreation Supervisor and inclusion coordinator of any maintenance or safety concerns.
  6. Notify Supervisor and Inclusion Coordinator as soon as possible of request for change in work schedule, absenteeism, and tardiness; find an approved substitute instructor to cover absences whenever possible and inform Supervisor and Inclusion Coordinator of the substitution.
  7. Keep Supervisor and Inclusion Coordinator informed of all positive and negative information regarding the physical facility, department staff, or general public.
  8. Request program equipment and supplies from the program Supervisor in advance of the class start date.
  9. Maintain any discipline specific certifications necessary.
  10. Complete accident/incident reports when accidents or injuries have occurred.
  11. Attends all staff meetings or training sessions as required.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider and First Aid required within three months of employment.
  • Previous experience working with individuals/children with disabilities and/or IEPs preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Possess any applicable discipline-specific certifications regionally accepted as proof of competency.
  2. Ability to work well with persons with disabilities.
  3. Ability to provide excellent customer service skills and relate to guest of all ages and backgrounds.
  4. Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  5. Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff, supervisor, and the public.
  7. Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.
  8. Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  9. Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations.
  10. Ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
  11. Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position involves sitting, standing, walking and movement requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force frequently and the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Physical activities include bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, lifting, reaching, grasping, lifting and repetitive motions. Also includes the necessity to communicate by talking, hearing/listening. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

May work in an indoor and/or outdoor environment, with possible weather elements. Possible exposure to pool chemicals, insecticides, along with chemicals used on fields and grass. in generally comfortable conditions.
