Job summary

Lawton Public Schools is seeking an In-School Suspension (ISS) program assistant to create a structured, supervised learning environment and to motivate students toward positive attitudes and academic growth. You will collaborate with classroom teachers to coordinate activities for suspended students and help them complete assigned work.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED and some specialized training or experience in education.
  • Knowledge of a variety of academic subjects and ability to apply methods for dealing with student misconduct.
  • 0-2 years experience in education or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces adherence to established rules and regulations of the in-school suspension program and creates an effective climate for learning.
  • Keeps appropriate records of ISS attendance and teacher's submission of classwork.
  • Assists students assigned to the program with completing their regular classroom assignments.
  • Communicates appropriate behavior, school rules, and regulations to students in the program; explains suspension and its impact on education.
  • Guides and encourages students to develop a positive attitude toward learning.
  • Reports inappropriate behavior by students to professional staff members.
  • Communicates with parents and classroom teachers regarding student behavior and progress.
