Job summary

CalArts CAP is seeking a CAP Assistant Instructor to support the CAP Lead Instructor in delivering an 8-week in-school hip-hop dance residency for youth (TK–12). The role involves teaching across multiple grade levels at CAP partner sites in the Montebello Unified School District and collaborating with CalArts staff and CAP instructors.

The position requires assisting with lesson planning, preparing materials, and ensuring a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• HS diploma, GED or equivalent required.
• Some college coursework preferred.
• BA or BFA degree a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in teaching CAP dance classes under Lead Instructors by reviewing the lesson plan one week in advance.
• Create a safe learning environment encouraging dialogue and diverse viewpoints.
• Set up and break down equipment and supplies before/after each class.
• Keep class supplies stocked and organized.
• Attend pre-scheduled trainings and meetings with CAP staff and Lead Instructors.
• Attend two biannual PD trainings on two Saturdays each year.
• Assist with preparation for exhibitions or culminating student work events.
• Attend a required site visit to become familiar with the school site and program logistics.
• Provide one-on-one support to students and monitor well-being during classes.
• Log hours in PayCom promptly per policy.
• Respond to emails/phone calls from Lead Instructors and CAP staff promptly.
