Job summary

The University of South Florida Institute of Applied Engineering (IAE) is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Intern to develop data pipelines and ML workflows within Palantir’s Maven Smart Systems (MSS). You’ll work with CDAO and J8 teams to create analytics tools supporting SOF resourcing decisions.

Hours are 20 per week in Fall/Spring and 29 per week in Summer, with starts in 11/2026 or 01/2027, in-person at Tampa, FL (MacDill AFB) with limited remote work. U.S. citizenship required.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Current GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Pursuing a bachelor's degree at a local accredited university with Junior or Senior standing.
• Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
• Good communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines within MSS to ensure mission datasets are properly ingested, validated, structured, and optimized for analytic workflows.
• Design and implement AI/ML workflows inside MSS, including feature engineering and model evaluation.
• Develop MSS-based analytic tools supporting SOF resourcing analysis and visualization of operational insights.
• Create user-facing applications in MSS for analysts and decision-makers to interact with models and dashboards.
• Prototype, test, and document ML models addressing SOCOM problem sets, collaborating to transition prototypes into stable components.
• Integrate ML components into MSS ontologies and workflows with SOCOM data structures and access controls.
• Work with mission analysts to refine requirements and ensure outputs meet decision-maker needs.
• Support data governance and documentation with version control and SOCOM data-handling standards.
• Participate in sprint reviews and design sessions to align across teams.
