Job summary

D.R. Horton, Inc. is seeking a Director of Product Design to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Product Design function.

This in-office role is based in Arlington, TX and focuses on establishing operating models, governance, and delivery strategies to execute the company’s product and creative roadmap. The role leads portfolio planning, organizational scaling, and cross-functional alignment while developing design leaders and resolving enterprise-level priorities, risks, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Design, Product Management, Business, or a related field.
• 10 years of experience in product design, design/creative operations, program management, or project management, including 3 years in a people-management or org-leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and govern operational frameworks across multiple teams or a full function.
• Track record of hiring, developing, and managing people managers.
• Deep understanding of design systems, with experience shaping and evolving them to support product quality and team efficiency.
• Proven experience designing and scaling operating models within Agile/Scrum product development environments.

Responsibilities

• Establish and oversee the Product Design operating model, governance frameworks, and operating cadence to align priorities and enable scalable delivery.
• Develop the strategic direction of the Product Design organization, aligning priorities with business objectives and long-term growth strategies.
• Partner with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, and other functions to align strategic priorities and address cross-functional dependencies.
• Direct portfolio planning, prioritization, tracking, and visibility to keep initiatives aligned with goals.
• Prepare and deliver executive reporting on portfolio performance, organizational health, risks, and priorities.
• Define and direct workforce, capacity, and headcount strategies for scalable growth.
• Anticipate, assess, and resolve portfolio-level risks and dependencies.
• Ensure leadership continuity and organizational effectiveness through talent development and succession planning.
• Represent the Product Design organization in enterprise initiatives and governance.
• Monitor industry trends and opportunities to enhance effectiveness and impact.
• Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner.
• Ability to travel overnight.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Design, Product Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience required

10 years of experience in product design, design/creative operations, program management, or project management, including 3 years in a people-management or org-leadership role

Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and govern operational frameworks across multiple teams or a full function
