Job summary

PitchBook Data, a Morningstar company, is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) on the AI & ML (Insights) team in Seattle to deliver AI-powered features that extract meaningful insights from PitchBook’s data sources, including reports and text content.

You will work across NLP, GenAI, large language models, and scalable data systems to design, build, deploy, and maintain ML solutions powering user-facing features on the PitchBook Platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or related field; advanced degrees preferred.
• 2+ years of software or ML engineering focusing on AI/ML applications in insight generation, summarization, semantic search, and prediction.
• Demonstrated expertise in NLP and ML including classifiers, transformer models, LLMs, and libraries such as scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
• Experience delivering production‑grade GenAI or LLM‑based systems with measurable business impact.
• Familiarity with LangChain ecosystem (LangSmith, LangGraph) is a strong plus.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; Java/Scala a plus.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes; cloud data platforms like Snowflake.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-impact AI and ML capabilities that drive insight generation on the PitchBook Platform; align with team priorities.
• Provide hands‑on expertise in designing, building, and deploying AI/ML models and services focusing on NLP, summarization, semantic search, classification, and prediction.
• Contribute to technical excellence through knowledge sharing and code/design reviews; mentor teammates.
• Build and optimize models using classifiers, transformers, LLMs, and NLP techniques; integrate into the AI/ML infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and data collection teams to ensure data quality informs models.
• Explore GenAI, NLP, and search; translate research into practical solutions.
• Contribute to model transparency, monitoring, evaluation, and security; support responsible AI use.
• Participate in candidate evaluation and onboarding; contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Apply Agile, Lean, and Fast‑Flow methodologies to model development and deployment.
