Job summary

Tutor Me Education in Venice, CA seeks tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring. You will work with students with special needs, delivering tailored instruction aligned with IEP goals, building literacy, and supporting daily activities in a home setting.

Ideal candidates have a teaching credential, experience with ASD and literacy development, and a patient, adaptable teaching style.

Qualifications

• Teaching credential required.
• Experience with elementary students with ASD and/or learning differences.
• Strong literacy background including phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, and early reading skills.
• Experience supporting students below grade level in reading and writing.
• Ability to adapt instruction for diverse learning needs using multisensory strategies.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized instruction in foundational literacy, reading, writing, and verbal expression.
• Build phonemic awareness through engaging and multisensory activities.
• Provide explicit phonics instruction and support decoding and word-reading skills.
• Improve reading fluency through guided reading, repeated reading, and targeted practice.
• Support reading comprehension by teaching strategies for understanding, recalling, and discussing text.
• Develop written expression skills, including sentence formation, organization, vocabulary, and communicating ideas in writing.
• Reinforce verbal expression through conversation, questioning, retelling, and structured communication activities.
• Use visual aids, manipulatives, movement, and interactive activities to reinforce learning.
• Provide repetition and frequent comprehension checks to support auditory processing needs.
• Break down instructions and academic tasks into clear, manageable steps.
• Monitor progress and adjust lessons based on the student's response and developing skills.
• Incorporate the student's interests and preferred learning styles to make sessions engaging and motivating.
• Build academic confidence through positive reinforcement, encouragement, and consistent support.
• Collaborate with the student's existing support team and align instruction with current academic goals when appropriate.
