Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized instruction in foundational literacy, reading, writing, and verbal expression.
  • Build phonemic awareness through engaging and multisensory activities.
  • Provide explicit phonics instruction and support decoding and word-reading skills.
  • Improve reading fluency through guided reading, repeated reading, and targeted practice.
  • Support reading comprehension by teaching strategies for understanding, recalling, and discussing text.
  • Develop written expression skills, including sentence formation, organization, vocabulary, and communicating ideas in writing.
  • Reinforce verbal expression through conversation, questioning, retelling, and structured communication activities.
  • Use visual aids, manipulatives, movement, and interactive activities to reinforce learning.
  • Provide repetition and frequent comprehension checks to support auditory processing needs.
  • Break down instructions and academic tasks into clear, manageable steps.
  • Monitor progress and adjust lessons based on the student's response and developing skills.
  • Incorporate the student's interests and preferred learning styles to make sessions engaging and motivating.
  • Build academic confidence through positive reinforcement, encouragement, and consistent support.
  • Collaborate with the student's existing support team and align instruction with current academic goals when appropriate.

We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Venice, CA!

About the Role:

As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, youâll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Details:
  • In-Person Tutoring in Venice, CA
  • Schedule: 10 hours per month; 2 days a week for 1.25 hours
  • Rate is between $25 and $35 per hour
Ideal Candidate:
  • Teaching credential required
  • Experience working with elementary students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or learning differences
  • Strong background in foundational literacy, including phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, and early reading skills
  • Experience supporting students performing below grade level in reading and writing
  • Strong understanding of reading fluency, reading comprehension, and written expression
  • Familiarity with auditory processing difficulties and strategies for supporting students who have difficulty processing and retaining verbal information
  • Skilled in using multisensory, visual, hands-on, and interactive teaching strategies
  • Patient, encouraging, and adaptable teaching style
  • Able to break down academic concepts into small, manageable steps and provide repetition as needed
  • Strong ability to build rapport and keep students motivated and actively engaged
  • Comfortable supporting verbal expression and communication through structured discussion and interactive activities
  • Able to adjust instruction based on the student's learning pace, strengths, and individual needs
