Job summary

Tutor Me Education seeks a Special Education SETSS tutor for in-home, 1:1 sessions in Jackson Heights, NY. Work with a 9th-grade student needing structured literacy, functional math, and language/communication support.

Role requires patience, a structured approach, and willingness for evening/weekend availability. Focus on foundational skills and reducing frustration through routine-based instruction.

Qualifications

• Experience providing SETSS or specialized 1:1 special education support.
• Strong background in literacy (phonics, CVC words, blending) and functional math.
• Skilled in implementing positive behavioral supports and sensory breaks.
• Experience working with high school-aged students needing foundational/functional support.
• Patient, structured, encouraging, and adept at managing frustration.
• Open to an evening and weekend tutoring schedule.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized SETSS instruction focused on foundational reading, writing, functional math, and communication skills.
• Target literacy concepts including CVC words, sight words, blending, spelling, and handwriting/penmanship.
• Teach practical, functional math concepts such as counting money and basic addition/subtraction.
• Implement structured behavioral supports, including token boards, reward systems, scheduled breaks, and sensory activities/tools to support focus and reduce frustration.
• Maintain a highly structured, routine-based environment to encourage active participation and task completion.
• Support the development of language and functional communication skills.
• Monitor progress and adapt instructional strategies to meet the student's evolving academic and behavioral needs.
