Job summary

Tutor Me Education seeks a dedicated SETSS tutor to provide one-on-one instruction for a 9th-grade student in Jackson Heights, NY. The role focuses on foundational reading, writing, functional math, and language/communication skills in a structured, supportive setting.

Ideal candidates will use token boards, rewards, breaks, and sensory tools to keep the student engaged, reduce frustration, and foster a positive learning environment. Evening and weekend availability is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience providing SETSS or specialized 1:1 SPED support.
• Strong literacy background (phonics, CVC words, blending) and functional math basics.
• Experience with positive behavioral supports (token economies, rewards) and sensory breaks.
• Experience teaching high school-aged students needing foundational/functional skills.
• Patient, structured, and able to manage frustration in challenging tasks.
• Open to evening and weekend tutoring schedules.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized SETSS instruction focused on reading, writing, functional math, and communication skills.
• Target literacy concepts including CVC words, sight words, blending, spelling, and handwriting.
• Teach practical, functional math concepts such as counting money and basic addition/subtraction.
• Implement structured behavioral supports (token economies, rewards, breaks, sensory activities) to support focus.
• Maintain a highly structured, routine-based environment to encourage participation and task completion.
• Support development of language and functional communication skills.
• Monitor progress and adapt instructional strategies to student needs.
