Job summary

The Norfolk Admirals are seeking an enthusiastic Audio Operator and Music DJ for game days. You will manage the in-arena audio system, control volume levels, and curate family‑friendly music to energize fans before, during, and after home games.

You will work with the Vice President of Entertainment, attend 36 home games (5–10 PM) and support playoffs if applicable. Responsibilities include setup/shutdown, mixing sources, and coordinating with production staff to set the tone for each game.

Audio Operator / Music DJ

Norfolk Admirals Professional Hockey Team

Classification: Part-Time/Non-Exempt (Seasonal)

Overview

The Norfolk Admirals Professional Hockey Team is seeking an enthusiastic, high-energy individual to be the In-Arena Audio Operator and Music DJ for game days. This person will be responsible for overall audio and volume control, and providing family appropriate and game situation‑specific musical entertainment before, during, and after Admirals home games using a provided, curated playlist. You will have to combine your knowledge of music and the game of hockey to create a positive and fun atmosphere for fans. This position will be a key member of the game‑day staff and work in close collaboration with and report to the Vice President of Entertainment. The main duties of the position will run from October through April. There may be other opportunities for work after April pending the Admirals making the playoffs. Typical shifts on game nights will be from 5‑10PM. This position is more than just playing music; we're looking for someone who can "set the tone" and throw a party in our arena every night.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend all 36 home games as well as pre‑game meetings (includes nights, weekends, and holidays)
  • Set up and shut down the audio system and laptop before and after all 36 home games.
  • Additional events (Playoffs) may be required
  • Control volume levels for PA, wireless microphones, and video boards
  • Coordinate with game day production staff to execute a fun, energetic, high‑energy show
  • Prepare and execute the playing of all pre‑game, in‑game, situational, and post‑game music selections according to the game script
  • Become familiar with click effects software and the uploading and editing of music
  • Mix audio sources to appropriate levels
Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be reliable and exhibit commitment to meeting both the work schedule and job requirements
  • A high level of professionalism, confidence, enthusiasm, and personal accountability
  • Willingness to learn and ability to work within a team atmosphere
  • Extensive knowledge of hockey, contemporary music knowledge, and ability to match up audio with appropriate game situations
  • Prior experience working with an audio board and Click Effects System is a plus
  • Comfortable engaging a crowd on a PA system
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and climb up/down flights of stairs on a regular and continuing basis
General Requirements
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be 18 years or older and have your own transportation.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Must be able to arrive at Scope Arena at least 90 minutes prior to game times.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including working game nights, weekends, holidays, and special event nights as needed.

Work Environment

Majority of time will be spent indoors. Job may require employee to function in a high activity and heavily crowded indoor professional sports venue/environment. Employee may also be exposed to cold temperatures for extended periods of time while performing the duties of this job.
