Job Description

The Improvement Consultant leads detection efforts and improvements aimed at enhancing quality and safety at Lurie Children’s by facilitating and coaching teams to achieve identified goals. Works collaboratively with all levels of leadership and a broad group of stakeholders to support achieving zero harm and continuous quality improvement for the organization. The Improvement Consultant demonstrates expertise in one or more of the following skillsets: clinical effectiveness and improvement (CEI), safety and process improvement (PI).

Job Duties

  • Leads projects and conducts analyses to support the organization’s goals around quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Utilizes project planning tools and safety/improvement methodologies to facilitate project teams working toward zero harm and improved outcomes.
  • Conducts benchmarking, evidence review and synthesis, manual observations, and chart reviews to support projects.
  • Maintains ongoing data analysis/sharing, visual display and annotations of control charts, tests of change, evidence updates and support of control teams.
  • Invests in relationships, training and tools to build improvement capacity in the organization.
  • Promotes and leads a culture of safety and high reliability. Demonstrates a learning mindset and leads local learning; builds accountability and recognition.
  • Shares improvement stories and lessons learned with external organizations and patients and families by spearheading submissions for presentation and publication. Supports Lurie Children’s participation in external collaboratives.
  • Performs job functions adhering to Core Values to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in health care, patient safety, or quality; or experience leading improvement projects within healthcare or service-related environment utilizing formal methodologies.
  • Experience in safety and quality improvement training preferred.
  • Project management and collaboration skills required.
  • Strong written, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in presenting, communicating, and interacting effectively with medical staff and management at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects with general supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Preferred proficiency with Epic.
  • Experience and skill with data management including interpreting, comprehending, and summarizing statistical and medical data.

Pay Range

$76,960.00-$125,840.00 Salary

At Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
