Job summary

Russell Tobin is seeking a detail-oriented Customs Brokerage Operations Specialist in New York to own CHB services for assigned customers. You will process customs entries, coordinate with forwarders, and ensure timely release and billing in line with KPIs.

You will review documentation for regulatory compliance, manage multiple shipments, and collaborate with carriers and internal teams to deliver accurate results and continuous process improvements.

Qualifications

• 1+ years in customs brokerage, logistics, freight forwarding or import/export operations.
• Basic understanding of customs documentation and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail with multitasking ability.
• Strong verbal and written communication when coordinating with customers and carriers.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to assigned customers and answer information requests.
• Process customs entries and OGA for clearance of goods.
• Open entry files and process entries per KPI guidelines.
• Coordinate clearance with forwarders, steamship lines and airlines for timely release.
• Complete customer billing and prepare required reports.
• Ensure compliance with OGA (FDA, F&W, EPA, FCC).
• Track inbound shipments and coordinate delivery from origin to consignee.
• Review entry documentation for government regulation compliance.
• Maintain and update customer SOPs as needed.

Job description

Own all CHB operations services for the customers assigned to them, including but not limited to:

• Providing customer service to assigned customers and assisting customers with questions and requests for information.
• Processing Customs entries and OGA for clearance of goods.
• Opens entry files, and subsequently processes entries according to outlined KPI
• Coordinates clearance of shipments with forwarders, Steamship Lines, Airlines, to ensure shipments are released timely.
• Completes customer billing and/or other required reports.
• Ensures compliance with regard to OGA (FDA, F&W, EPA, FCC etc.)
• Completes tracking and tracing for inbound shipments.
• Completes billing timely according to KPI
• Coordination of delivery for shipments from airline, ocean piers and CFS (container freight station) to customer/consignee destination.
• Reviews entry documentation to ensure it meets government regulations.
• Maintain customer SOPs and make updates as needed

Requirements:

• 1 or more years of experience in customs brokerage, logistics, freight forwarding, or import/export operations.
• Basic understanding of customs documentation, import processes, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills when working with customers, carriers, and internal teams.
• Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills to address shipment or documentation issues.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• Customs House Broker (CHB) license preferred but not required.
