Position Summary
The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the preparation and electronic submission of required entry forms and import documentation to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other government agencies (OGA).

This role focuses on the seamless coordination of inbound shipments with CBP/OGA, importers, carriers, and truckers to expedite cargo delivery to its final destination. The incumbent will provide strong customer service under general supervision, advising clients on complex customs matters while ensuring full compliance with federal trade regulations.

Key Roles And Responsibilities

  • Customs Compliance & Documentation
  • Prepare and process all import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, and procedures.
  • Request or compile necessary import documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents.
  • Stay abreast of changes in import laws and regulations by reading current literature and attending conferences.
  • Ensure all applicable products meet CPSC requirements.
  • Financial & Tariff Management
  • Classify goods according to the tariff coding system and calculate duty/tariff payments.
  • Quote duty and tax rates based on federal tariffs and excise taxes.
  • Post bonds for imported products or assist clients in obtaining them.
  • Apply for tariff concessions, duty drawbacks, and other refunds.
  • Prepare papers for shippers to appeal duty charges.
  • Shipments & Logistics Coordination
  • Clear goods through customs and coordinate local delivery to final destinations.
  • Coordinate freight release, including Pier Pass TMF and Clean Trucks Program CTF fees.
  • Monitor and trace the location of goods and confirm Customs/OGA release status.
  • Coordinate required exams and maintain relationships with brokers in other ports to expedite cargo clearing.
  • Client Advisory & Performance
  • Advise customers on import restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, and quotas.
  • Provide advice and quotes on various transportation options.
  • Update shipment status to clients and notify consignees if documentation is missing for CBP entry.
  • Invoice clients for services and perform other duties as directed by management.

Requirements:

Certification: Must be a Licensed Customs Broker.

Experience: Proven experience in brokerage operations and managing CBP/OGA electronic submissions. Minimum of 10 years of experience in freight forwarding or logistics.

Process Automation: Ability to identify and implement Robotic Process Automation (RPA) opportunities to streamline repetitive entry tasks and electronic submissions.

Data Literacy: Proficiency in using data-driven insights and tools (such as Power BI) to monitor compliance KPIs and operational performance.

Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of HTS classification, import laws, and OGA requirements (including CPSC, FDA, and EPA regulations).

Communication Skills: Strong customer service orientation and ability to confer effectively with agency officials.

Technical Proficiency: Ability to manage complex documentation including certificates of origin and cargo-control papers.

Physical Presence: This is an on-site, work-from-office position based in New York.

Adaptability: Ability to stay current with changing industry regulations and manage multiple priorities.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • The approximate annual base salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $105,000.00. The offered salary or salary range for this position will vary based on role requirements, skill set and years of experience.
