Job description

We're hiring an Implementation Lead to build and ship Company Operating Systems. You'll take a client's fulfillment plan and turn it into a working system in Notion: workflows mapped, automations running, SOPs documented, AI agents wired in. This is a builder seat, not a coordinator seat. You'll own delivery on the systems you build. "Lead" means you lead the build itself — a senior individual contributor who owns delivery end to end. It does not mean managing people or running the client relationship.

This is an operations role. You'll be building in Notion, wiring up automations, and designing workflows. You will not be writing production code and we're not looking for a developer. You do need to be technical enough to learn tools fast and think in systems, processes, data, and AI.

The Role in One Paragraph

Who We Are

Modern Operators is the operations partner for founder-led businesses. Founders come to us bottlenecked. Their business runs on tribal knowledge, the owner is the glue holding it together, and growth has stalled because everything routes through one person.

We install a Company Operating System. Built on Notion, layered with custom AI agents. Processes, standards, roles, dashboards, and the knowledge a team and an AI need to actually execute. We help founders stabilize, optimize, and scale their operations.

We're not theorists. We've built and sold companies, and we run our own business on the exact system we install for clients.

How We Operate
  • Clarity over complexity. Every system, process, and message should make things simpler. If it adds confusion, we rethink it.
  • Founder empathy. We build what founders actually need. No fluff. No theory.
  • Leverage through systems. Automate the repeatable. Document the critical. Empower the team.
  • Adaptability. The tools and the market change constantly. So do we.
  • Results, not rituals. We care about outcomes, not process for process's sake.
  • Transparency. Radical visibility, internally and with clients.

We're remote and asynchronous. That means we hire people who move without being chased. Do the work, communicate clearly, help businesses systematize.

What You'll Own
  • Execute client fulfillment plans end to end, from kickoff through system handoff.
  • Build the client's Company Operating System in Notion. Databases, dashboards, role pages, knowledge structure.
  • Map client workflows and translate messy, undocumented processes into clear, repeatable ones.
  • Implement automations that remove manual work from the client's team.
  • Write and maintain SOPs and process documentation the client's team and AI agents actually use.
  • Build and configure custom AI agents on top of the client's system.
  • Flag scope, risk, and timeline issues early, with a recommendation attached.
What Success Looks Like
First 30 days
  • You've been through our internal Company OS and know how we build. You've shadowed at least one live client build and you're handling defined build tasks on your own.
First 60 days
  • You're running build work on a client engagement without hand-holding. Workflows mapped, first automations live, SOPs written and reviewed.
First 90 days
  • You own delivery on at least five client builds. Milestones are hit on schedule and the client's team is actually using the system.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years in operations. Any industry, ideally digital-first. Agency, SaaS, or services background is a plus.
  • Systems architect mindset. You look at a messy business and see the structure underneath it. You've built systems from nothing before, not just maintained someone else's.
  • Notion power user. Deep, hands-on. Relations, rollups, formulas, templates, database design. Equivalent depth in ClickUp or Monday.com works if you can get to Notion fast.
  • Strong AI experience. You use Claude or ChatGPT daily in real work, not as a novelty. Comfortable writing prompts and instructions that other people and systems depend on.
  • Documentation discipline. You write clearly and you capture documentation as you go (using AI), not after the fact.
  • Remote track record. You've succeeded remotely and you manage your own hours and priorities without supervision.
  • Solution oriented. You bring the problem, the options, and your recommendation. Not just the problem.

Nice to have:

  • Experience inside a client services or agency delivery model.
  • Automation tooling experience (n8n, Make, Zapier).
  • You've led an operations function, not just executed inside one.
  • Familiar with Google Drive and SharePoint.
Location and Hours

United States preferred. We're also open to candidates in Colombia, the Philippines, and Central or South America.

Whatever your location, you must work US Central Time hours.

Who Thrives Here

You'll do well if you like ownership, you'd rather ship something and improve it than wait for perfect, and you're comfortable working in a company that is itself still being built. You enjoy the act of building a system more than the act of talking about one. You're direct in writing and you don't take direct feedback personally.

Who Shouldn't Apply
  • You want detailed daily direction and a manager checking in on you.
  • You're looking for a primarily client-facing role. This seat is heads-down building. Client contact happens, but it isn't the job.
  • You're a project manager who coordinates other people's work rather than doing the build yourself.
  • You're a software developer looking for an engineering seat. This is operations and systems design, not coding.
  • You dislike documenting your work.
  • You're skeptical of AI tools and don't want to use them daily.
  • You can't work US Central Time.
Compensation

$70,000 to $90,000 per year, depending on experience and location. We start every hire as an hourly contractor for a pilot period, then move to a full-time arrangement once both sides are confident.
