Job summary

SEIU Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) based in San Diego, CA, seeks a Worksite Organizer to build CIR presence on the UC San Diego worksite, develop member leaders, and enforce the collective bargaining agreement.

The UC San Diego Worksite Organizer will collaborate with a team, recruit and train delegates, meet recruitment and PAC goals, engage members, and develop communication and campaign plans.

Qualifications

• Experience in union or political/community organizing preferred.
• Ability to develop member leaders and strategize changes in the workplace.
• Commitment to social justice and labor organizing principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage conflict and work in adversarial situations.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic.
• Strong planning and time management skills.
• Proficiency with Google Suite, messaging apps, and databases.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel/relocate to San Diego.
• COVID vaccination in line with CDC guidelines.
• Must reside in the San Diego area or be willing to relocate.
• Commitment to ongoing self-reflection and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute national programming with the team.
• Identify, recruit, train, and support delegates and worksite leaders.
• Meet annual membership recruitment and PAC goals per chapter.
• Engage members in union activities.
• Build worksite communication, mobilization, and leadership structures.
• Develop and execute campaigns on workplace issues.
• Support delegates in using grievance procedures to enforce contracts.
• Encourage participation in political and community coalitions.
• Participate in organizing campaigns and new projects.
• Develop and execute contract campaigns and boost member participation.
• Prepare work plans, calendars, files, and reports.
• Work effectively in labor-management partnerships.
• Other responsibilities as needed.
