Job summary

Portage County District Attorney’s Office is hiring a full-time Victim Witness Specialist to assist crime victims and witnesses through the judicial process. The role includes informing rights, arranging court appearances, and coordinating with agencies to support those served.

It also supports program procedures and ensures regulatory compliance. Starting pay is $27.77/hr, with benefits including vacation, health insurance, retirement, and various employee programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; two years post high school education in social work, criminal justice, psychology, paralegal or related field requested.
• Two years’ work experience in law office, justice system, law enforcement or related field required.
• Two years’ experience in office procedures including knowledge of computer systems required.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
• Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive orientation and support services to victims and witnesses, informing them of rights and assisting attendance at court.
• Ensure program compliance with statutory and constitutional requirements and related guidelines.
• Assist in developing procedures, forms, and brochures for the Victim Witness Program.
• Maintain records accurately, timely, and legally.
• Serve as liaison between victims, witnesses and the District Attorney’s Office; coordinate meetings with prosecutors and document them.
• Coordinate with community resources and agencies to provide services.
• Provide training and orientation in the Victim Witness Program to County staff and the community.
• Schedule witnesses for court and arrange hotels and transportation as needed.
